When it comes to online shopping, convenience is key. With the advancement of technology, the products we order on Amazon or other retailers can be at our doorstep within a few days — and some cases within a few hours. In fact, online shopping has become so convenient that consumers are now going online to do their grocery shopping.

While consumers have been hesitant to adopt to this new form of online shopping — largely due to the fact that they’re entrenched in their own grocery shopping habits and value the ability to examine and taste test certain products before purchases — the model is slowly becoming mainstream.

According to a study conducted by the Food Marketing Institute and Nielsen, nearly half of Americans are now purchasing their groceries online, and this will increase to 70% by 2022. Additionally, online grocery sales are predicted to capture 20% of the entire grocery retail market by 2025. With this in mind, online grocery shopping is shaping up to be the next major retail sector that will be disrupted by the ecommerce market.

Retailers are taking notice: Stores such as Amazon, Target and Walmart have adapted their business to accommodate the needs of their consumers. Not only will adapting online shopping increase retailers’ bottom line, but it will also make their consumers happier as well. Check out our infographic to learn more about how online grocery shopping will change the ecommerce industry and the way consumers shop.
